The Birthday Party (1980-1983) were one of the most original, visceral and influential bands from the early 1980s. Having developed in Melbourne, Australia in the late 70s as The Boys Next Door they changed their name to The Birthday Party when they relocated to London and proceeded to unleash a series of albums and live performances which had an impact far beyond their commercial success. By 1982 the band had moved to Berlin and within a year the whole endeavour imploded. In 2023 the documentary ‘Mutiny in Heaven’ was released to widespread acclaim. It captures the essence of the band and their unique approach and world view and is a testament to the extraordinary explosive force of their live performances.
